After a rehearsal for Shikishin Funi, I always leave the studio with a sense of belonging, understanding and ultimately feeling happy.
I approach this work with curiosity, as if I came into the studio or stage for an investigation of life. It is me surrounded by others, in the purest and most honest way.
Movement arises from body sensations and body memories which are traced back to sensations and emotions imprinted in my memories. These source memories are varied, distant and often unrelated and I take pleasure in examining them. Though, what I find most interesting is how this deep introspective is met with the other dancers’. Each of us carries our own individuality to a confront with the others’ and it is this communication, eventually leading to conciliation, that feels so rewarding and beautiful.
